Pérez exits Azteca América amid company downsizing

Enrique Pérez, EVP of the Azteca América Station Group, is no longer with the company.

A former longtime Telemundo executive, Pérez had been with Azteca América since March 2014.

He is one of several executives and staffers that have left or were laid off following the company’s acquisition by HC2 Network in 2017.

“My departure is something I’d been discussing with Manuel [Abud] for a few months,” Pérez tells Media Moves. “I had a very gratifying run at Azteca, building a Station group and local business and being part of the leadership that relaunched the network 5 years ago. I’m excited for what’s next and to explore new opportunities even though there is nothing definitive at the moment.”

Manuel Abud continues in his role as president and CEO of now HC2-owned Azteca América. Craig A. Geller is still on board as EVP, Network Sales and Digital.

Since the HC2 acquisition, Azteca América has undergone significant downsizing across all departments, including sales at local stations, which is now being primarily handled by the parent company.

Margarita Black, VP of Programming, and Jorge Mettey, VP of News and Community Outreach are among those whose positions have been eliminated.

“Earlier this year we initiated a number of changes to focus our resources on our most strategic opportunities for growth. As part of these changes, we’ve had to make some difficult decisions that include consolidation of local stations and a reduction in personnel across the company,” states an HC2 spokesperson. “The new structure will enable us to stay competitive and ensure the long-term success of our business.”
