Hugo Balta 2018

Hugo Balta returns to MSNBC

January 7, 2019 by Veronica Villafañe

Hugo Balta is back at MSNBC. He rejoins the cable news network as senior producer, working on weekend programming.

He previously worked at MSNBC as a news producer from 1999 to 2001.

His first day is today.

“Who says you can’t go home again? I’m thrilled to return to MSNBC after 20-years and to NBC Universal since departing Telemundo 47, New York in 2009,” Balta tells Media Moves. “I look forward to working on my first love, straight news and politics for a respected news network.”

Balta most recently spent seven years at ESPN, leaving the company in September of 2018.

Before that, he was managing director at WCBS in New York.

He also worked for Telemundo New York as news director from 2003 to 2009.

Balta is currently serving a second term as President of NAHJ.

He’ll do a great job for them . Again. He’s well respected and he’s just really, really smart and has a strong news judgement.
