Yara Lasanta - 2017

Yara Lasanta leaves Telemundo 52 to join Univision 34 as chief meteorologist

January 29, 2019 by Veronica Villafañe

Yara Lasanta is moving from Telemundo to Univision. She has left KVEA 52, where she has worked for the past three years, to join KMEX-34 in Los Angeles as chief meteorologist.

She’ll cover weather for the 6 and 11 pm weekday newscasts.

She takes over the role left vacant by Guillermo Quiroz in September 2018, after a 20-year run. Since then, the KMEX’s newscast anchors have been delivering the weather, with backup support from Univision’s national weather center in Houston when needed.

In addition to anchoring weather segments, Lasanta will be tasked with building a team of meteorologists for Univision 34. She’ll also contribute to the station’s community empowerment efforts through educational initiatives on meteorology and climate issues.

Prior to KVEA, Lasanta was a weekend weather anchor for Telenoticias Fin de Semana at 5 and 10 pm at Telemundo Puerto Rico.

A former model and beauty pageant contestant, she started her broadcast career in her native of Puerto Rico.
