Univision promotes Martínez-Guzmán to SVP and Executive News Director

August 27, 2019 by Veronica Villafañe

María Martínez-Guzmán has been promoted from VP of News Gathering to SVP and Executive News Director of Univision News, effective immediately.

In her new expanded role, Martínez-Guzmán will head programming efforts for all daily Univision network news properties, including “Noticiero Univision,” midday newscast “Noticiero Univision Edición Digital,” newsmagazine “Primer Impacto,” morning show “Despierta América,” and entertainment and gossip show “El Gordo y La Flaca,” as well as the Sunday morning political show “Al Punto.”

Executive producers for each of those programs will now report directly to Martínez-Guzmán, who essentially takes over the duties of the position left vacant by Patsy Loris when she left the company in May.

Martínez-Guzmán joined Univision network in 2002 after spending five years as News Director for Univision’s affiliate in McAllen.

Since moving to the network’s Miami headquarters, she has held several positions of growing importance, including managing editor and executive producer. she was named VP of News Gathering in 2016.
