Azteca Valle anchors
L to R: Daisy Martinez, Arturo Vargas, Marianela Aguirre, Hugo Magallan and Ana Paulina Marín

KRGV becomes Azteca América affiliate, launches HECHOS Valle newscasts

October 1, 2020 by Veronica Villafañe

KRGV’s formerly independent Spanish-language digital subchannel is now an Azteca América affiliate. As part of the change, management today launched HECHOS Valle newscasts, leaving behind its prior branded Somos El Valle, Somos Noticias.

HECHOS Valle newscasts will be produced by KRGV, tapping on the resources of Channel 5 News, covering the McAllen, Weslaco, Brownsville and Harligen area, which is Hispanic market #10.

Recently hired Marianela Aguirre and Hugo Magallán will anchor HECHOS Valle weekdays at 5 and 10 pm. Daisy Martinez and Arturo Vargas, who had been anchoring those time slots, move to mornings  at 7 am and noon.

Ana Paulina Marín, who was morning anchor, will now anchor weekends – 5 pm Saturday and primetime news briefs, and Sunday 5 and 10 pm. She’ll report three times a week for the 5 pm newscast Wednesday through Friday.

Current reporters Santiago Caicedo, Yuri Gonzalez, Enrique Lerma and Javier de la Rosa round up the team. KRGV bilingual reporters will also contribute to the Spanish-language newscasts. Gerardo Aranda is executive producer.
