Univision promotes Ilia García and Dacelys Martínez to news director roles

December 15, 2021 by Veronica Villafañe

Ilia García and Dacelys Martínez Ortega are moving up the ranks within the Univision local media station group.

García has been promoted to the role of news director and anchor for Univision Philadelphia. She was most recently executive producer and anchor.

A native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, García began her journalism career 17 years ago as a freelance reporter at WUVP, which would later become Univision 65.

Martínez Ortega has been elevated to regional news director for Univision’s Atlanta and Raleigh Stations. She was most recently producer and anchor Univision 34.

She joined the Atlanta station as a freelance news editor in 2016, following a 15-year journalism career in her native Venezuela.

News Director and anchor? Executive Producer and anchor? Producer and anchor?
When are the Hispanic tv stations going to pay and respect their employees just like the counterparts in the same market?
Philly and Atlanta are big markets.
Do me a favor Spanish media professionals. Leave the industry and leave for the English speaking stations, so these Hispanic companies will finally respect us.

      Couldn’t agree with you more.
Cruel reality is that all that, ain’t gonna change.
The Latino Brass will keep on nickel and diming every single talent and chance they can.

I hate the role regional news director, Raleigh as top 24 DMA does not need that nickel and dimming and splitting roles kit won’t be equal I’ll be one station gets more than the other.
