TelevisaUnivision - Hemisphere Media WKAQ Pantaya

TelevisaUnivision to buy Pantaya in deal that swaps ownership of Puerto Rico radio stations to HMG

May 9, 2022 by Veronica Villafañe

TelevisaUnivision has struck a deal with Hemisphere Media Group (HMG) to buy Spanish-language streaming service Pantaya.

The acquisition will give TelevisaUnivision access to Pantaya’s original series and built in U.S.-subscriber base to beef up programming for its recently launched global streaming service.

In announcing the purchase agreement, TelevisaUnivision said Pantaya content would be geared to bolster the premier tier of ViX+, scheduled to launch in the second half of 2022.

As part of the deal, TelevisaUnivision would exchange ownership of Puerto Rican radio assets WKAQ AM and KQ105 FM currently to HMG.

You can read more details of the transaction on Forbes.

And WAPA becomes a quasi Univision O&O because the article left out that Gato Investments, lead investor of TelevisaUnivision, has bought out Hemisphere. Basically, lipstick on a pig.

This all sounds terrible to me! How could all this be approved?
It seems Televisa-Univision are building a big monopoly in both countries now -and internationally. This is not good. Am I wrong?
