Eli Velazquez

Eli Velázquez tapped to lead Telemundo Deportes

March 2, 2023 by Veronica Villafañe

As expected, Telemundo today announced Eli Velázquez, EVP of Sports, will assume leadership of Telemundo Deportes.

Velázquez takes over the reins of the network’s sports division, following Ray Warren’s retirement and Telemundo’s record breaking coverage of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

Velázquez will oversee sports production, programming, acquisitions, operations and content and will also be responsible for the management and execution of major Spanish-language event coverage, including FIFA World Cup properties, the Olympic Games, NFL Sunday Night Football, U.S. Soccer Federation matches, Premier League and Liga MX’s Chivas de Guadalajara.

He will continue to work closely with NBC Sports and Peacock and report to Beau Ferrari, Chairman, NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises.

Velázquez has been with Telemundo for over 20 years, joining the network in 1999 as a producer for “Boxeo Telemundo,” working his way up the management ranks. Named VP of Sports in 2008, he was promoted to SVP in 2014. He was upped again to EVP a year later.

Telemundo also announced the following sports leadership team will report to Velázquez:

Ivel Alfaro-Calvo, VP Programming and Production,  Eliseo Cano Fernandez, VP Business Operations and Finance, Roberto Pardo, SVP Sports Content, and Christopher Suarez-Meyers, SVP Sports Content Operations.
