Muñoz, Suárez and Alfonso out at KVEA

Edgar Muñoz, Johana Suárez and Denny Alfonso.

Primetime anchor Edgar Muñoz, weekend anchor Johana Suárez and investigative reporter Denny Alfonso are no longer on the air at KVEA-52, the Telemundo O&O in Los Angeles.

The station opted to not renew Edgar and Johana’s contracts.*

Edgar had been 6 and 11 pm anchor since March of 2013, while Johana took over weekend anchoring duties in January of the same year. Denny joined the station in January of 2014.

A source says the station is already interviewing replacements.

A station spokesperson sent Media Moves the following statement about the talent departures:

“Edgar and Johana have reached the end of their contracts with Telemundo 52, we thank them for their contributions and support them in their future professional pursuits.

Denny is pursuing new opportunities.  We are supportive of her transition and appreciate the work that she has done with our RESPONDE enterprise.  She will be using the next few months to finalize her next move.

Our commitment to provide quality news to our viewers will continue and we are working with our news team on transition.”

An inside source says Denny, who is currently vacationing in Asia, will be returning to New York. No word yet on where Edgar and Johana will be going next.

The station spokesperson would not reveal at this time who will be replacing the anchors on an interim basis. But a source says that Dinorah Pérez is temporarily stepping in for Denny to do the “Telemundo Responde” consumer segment.

* Line was added after story was published to emphasize that only Edgar and Johana’s contracts were not renewed.
