Muñoz, Suárez and Alfonso out at KVEA

Primetime anchor Edgar Muñoz, weekend anchor Johana Suárez and investigative reporter Denny Alfonso are no longer on the air at KVEA-52, the Telemundo O&O in Los Angeles.

The station opted to not renew Edgar and Johana’s contracts.*

Edgar had been 6 and 11 pm anchor since March of 2013, while Johana took over weekend anchoring duties in January of the same year. Denny joined the station in January of 2014.

A source says the station is already interviewing replacements.

A station spokesperson sent Media Moves the following statement about the talent departures:

“Edgar and Johana have reached the end of their contracts with Telemundo 52, we thank them for their contributions and support them in their future professional pursuits.

Denny is pursuing new opportunities.  We are supportive of her transition and appreciate the work that she has done with our RESPONDE enterprise.  She will be using the next few months to finalize her next move.

Our commitment to provide quality news to our viewers will continue and we are working with our news team on transition.”

An inside source says Denny, who is currently vacationing in Asia, will be returning to New York. No word yet on where Edgar and Johana will be going next.

The station spokesperson would not reveal at this time who will be replacing the anchors on an interim basis. But a source says that Dinorah Pérez is temporarily stepping in for Denny to do the “Telemundo Responde” consumer segment.

* Line was added after story was published to emphasize that only Edgar and Johana’s contracts were not renewed.

Very sorry to hear about this…First Felicidad Aveleyra leaves Ch 34, now this…seems like the Spanish channels in LA are in flux, would love to see some stability like the English news teams seem to have. But I know it’s a business and the viewer should not get attached to who’s on TV because they seem to change pretty quick….

Media Moves has to do a better research.
Denny Alfonso got a new job in NY and that is why the station quotes ” Denny is pursuing new opportunities , she will use the next few months to finalize her next move”
Reading this article sounds like they didnt renew her contract , Media Moves better correct and explain that was Denny who decided to take the new job in NYC.
As per Edgar and Johana their case is diferent and that is why the station gives the quote in a totally diferent level.
Stop jeopardizing people careers with wrong info.

I’m reading over and over this article and frankly, I haven’t found the part in which “it jeopardizes people’s careers”.
Maybe a mistake on the Ms. Alfonso’s scenario, but not more.
MM has done and I’m sure it will, as it also has fulfilled, an excellent duty, and for years.
Why should we be afraid or not to discuss, for that matter, the reality of the so called Latino Media, or worse, the “Television Hispana en EEUU”?
Not only it performs under way too different conditions and standards, compared to the “anglo” markets; but also carries a big load of dirty laundry every single day.
Did they quit, did they get fired ? Why not to send a respectful release out ? Hence, why the fear ?
