Univision Chicago premieres its first morning show

January 18, 2019 by Veronica Villafañe

Univision Chicago is launching its first-ever morning show.

Alex Hernández and Diana Pérez will co-anchor “Primera Hora,” which will air weekdays from 5 to 7 am CT, starting Monday, January 21.

“Primera Hora” will include hyperlocal news, weather, traffic, lifestyle and community-related content and feature daily live integrations with morning personality Mau Mauricio from sister radio station Latino Mix 93.5 FM.

Pérez joined Univision Chicago in 2015 as a weather anchor before getting bumped up to news anchor of “Edición Digital,” the station’s weekday midday newscast launched in 2017.

Hernández joined Univision Chicago as a reporter in late 2018. He had previously spent four years as weeknight anchor at Telemundo 60 San Antonio.

Oh, this has happened before WSNS-44 Telemundo Chicago had an early morning newscast called “Buenos Dias Chicago” back in 2001 but was scaled back and canceled after 9/11. So this is not a first for Chicago.
