Karla Leal returns to Texas for Spectrum News job

April 8, 2022 by Veronica Villafañe

Following a 9-year run in Chicago, Karla Leal has joined regional cable news network Spectrum News 1 Texas as an anchor and reporter.

Based in Austin, she anchors Saturday evening broadcasts and reports during the week.

She was most recently a general assignment reporter and fill-in anchor at WSNS-TV Telemundo Chicago. During her time in the Windy City, she also reported for Telemundo Network and participated in special projects in English at sister station NBC 5 Chicago.

The move marks her return to Texas. From 2009 to 2013, she was an anchor and reporter for Telemundo Austin, where she helped launch the first local Spanish language local newscasts. She also reported for sister station and CBS affiliate KEYE-TV.

Originally from Tijuana, Mexico, Leal also worked as an anchor and reporter at Telemundo 11 in Bakersfield and as a bilingual traffic reporter for Clear Channel Radio in San Diego.
