Telemundo Houston’s Jerry Vazquez loses battle with cancer

Jerry Vazquez, Telemundo Houston’s VP of news, has died after a battle with cancer. He was 54.

Vazquez had led the Telemundo O&O in Houston since 2014.

He previously spent 13 years as executive producer at KTRK-13, the ABC O&O in Houston.

During his decades-long journalism career in Texas, Vazquez helped launch Telemundo San Antonio’s “Noticiero 60” in 1989 as the station’s first assignment editor.

Vazquez got his start as a producer at KGNS in Laredo and also worked as news director at KMID-TV in Midland.
