Univision scores ratings bonanza with World Cup

2014 world cup logoFrom the kickoff last Thursday of the world’s biggest sporting event, Univision has seen stellar ratings of the 2014 World Cup matches in Brazil, surpassing ESPN.

According to Univision, its network coverage is pacing ahead of its 2010 World Cup coverage by more than 25% among total Viewers and more than 11% among Adults 18-49 through the first 8 matches.

More than 10 million viewers tuned in to all or part of the opening match, Brazil vs. Croatia. That game saw an average of 5.1 million total viewers and 2.7 million Adults 18-49.

In comparison, ESPN’s coverage of the same match averaged 4.4 million total viewers and 2.4 million Adults 18-49.

During that game, Univision was the highest rated broadcast station among adults 18-34 and 18-49 in Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Houston, Dallas, Chicago, San Francisco, Phoenix and Sacramento.

Live streaming has also paid off for the network. On Thursday, June 12, Univision Digital had its most trafficked day ever with 5.8 million visits and its best day ever for video with over 4.7 million video views, inclusive of the live stream.
