Univision promotes Martínez-Guzmán and Tristán

May 24, 2016 by Veronica Villafañe

Longtime staffers María Martínez-Guzmán and Gabriela Tristán have new titles at Univision. The company today announced their promotions within the news department.

Martínez-Guzmán is now VP and Executive Producer of News Gathering. She’ll supervise and assign daily stories for all newscasts, plan and coordinate series and special news coverage, and manage correspondents and assignment editors.

Tristán becomes VP and Executive Producer of News Production. In her new role, she’ll oversee daily production and broadcast of all newscasts and plan and organize special coverage of events and breaking news. She’ll also manage Univision News anchors, producers, and writers.

Both women will report to SVP and Senior News Director Patsy Loris.

Martínez-Guzmán was most recently Managing Editor of Network News and before that, national and international assignment editor, Univision News. She was part of the team responsible for launching “Al Punto.” Prior to joining Univision News in 2002, she was News Director at KNVO Univision 48, Entravision’s affiliate television station in McAllen, Texas.

Tristán joined Univision as an intern in 1993 and worked her way up the ranks, beginning as a news segment producer for “Despierta América” and subsequently for Network News. After moving up to general producer for “Al Punto,” she was promoted to Executive Producer in 2012. She was most recently Executive Producer, Univision Network News.
