Joe Ruiz moves to management role at CBS News

January 19, 2023 by Veronica Villafañe

Joe Ruiz has started a new position as managing editor at CBS News.

He left CNN in December for the upward move to CBS News.

In his new role, he’ll be leading CBSNews.com’s evening coverage and managing a team of writers and editors. He’ll also helping with site strategy.

He’ll continue to be based in San Antonio.

Ruiz was previously senior editor for politics at CNN Digital, based in Washington, D.C., but was able to move to his hometown of San Antonio in 2021 and work remotely during the pandemic.

Before CNN, Ruiz spent two years as weekend editor at NPR digital. He has also worked at NBC affiliate KSHB in Kansas City, NOWCastSA.com, seattletimes.com and KSAT.com.
