Villegas leaves Telemundo’s “Un Nuevo Día”

Alessandra VillegasAfter 3 years as one “Un Nuevo Día’s” on-air personalities, Alessandra Villegas has left Telemundo’s morning show.

Alessandra was not on the air last week. In a statement, Telemundo confirmed this week that she’s no longer part of the show and wished her the best in her future endeavors.

In an interview with HuffPost Voces, Alessandra says she decided not to renew contract because “the network didn’t give her what she hoped for.”

She says she pondered over this decision for months, but that ultimately, she’s looking for a change and “more exposure,” something she wouldn’t be able to accomplish with her limited participation on the show.

She didn’t get a chance to say her good-byes on air, but on Monday, Alessandra took to Twitter and Facebook to tell her fans she was no longer on the show, express her gratitude to Telemundo for the opportunity to learn and grow, and thank her co-workers and the public. She said she would soon let her fans know about her next career move.

Chavo8-reencuentro3Actor Carlos Villagrán, who became famous for playing Quico on the popular series “El Chavo del 8,” was on Telemundo’s morning show “Un Nuevo Día”  this morning,.

During the show,  he participated in a surprise reunion with María Antonieta de las Nieves, most famously known as “La Chilindrina.”

After years of not talking to each other, the Mexican comedians, who for decades have personified the characters in the children’s program, put their differences behind them and “made up” on Telemundo’s morning show.

During the program, de las Nieves blamed the press for creating a non-existent feud between the two actors.

Telemundo’s morning show debuts new set

Telemundo’s morning show debuts new set

Telemundo’s “Un Nuevo Día” continues its efforts to gain ratings in the early morning sphere, dominated by Univision’s “Despierta América.”

The network is once again sprucing up the look of the morning show, which debuted a new set yesterday.

Hosts Rashel Diaz and Omar Germenos with guest Penélope Menchaca on the show’s new set.

Hosts Adamari López, Rashel Díaz, Daniel Sarcos, Omar Germenos, Azucena Cierco and Alessandra Villegas are celebrating the show’s new home all this week, with a lineup of guest performers that includes Elvis Crespo, 3 Ball MTY, Angel y Chris and Gerardo Ortiz.  Telemundo telenovela actors Mauricio Ochman, Marlene Fabela, Adriana Fonseca, Aylín Mujica, among others, will also visit the new “Un Nuevo Día” set.

“We have created a more intimate, welcoming environment that maintains a spacious and relaxed atmosphere,” said María López-Álvarez, Telemundo’s VP of alternative programming in a statement. “The new set is part of our continuing efforts to bring a fresh look to ‘Un Nuevo Día.’”

In July of this year, Telemundo rebranded its morning show, changing the name from “Levántate” to “Un Nuevo Día.” The network also hired actress Adamari López as co-host and gave the program a new on-air look.

The show also has a new kitchen set.

Telemundo rebrands morning show, actress debuts as co-host

Telemundo rebrands morning show, actress debuts as co-host

Telemundo is revamping its morning show “Levántate.”  Starting Monday, July 16, the weekday morning show will have a new on-air look, be renamed “Un Nuevo Día” (“A New Day”), and will welcome actress Adamari López as co-host.

Adamari will join the show’s talent team, which includes Rashel Díaz, Omar Germenos, Azucena Cierco, Daniel Sarcos and Ramón Zayas, who anchors the news segments.

The morning program also will feature a special appearance by comedian Pepe Suárez, recently hired by Telemundo as on-air talent and Executive Producer of Alternative Programming.

In her new role with Telemundo, Adamari will also promote content integration through special segments between “Un nuevo día” and the digital platform “iVillage Mujer de Hoy” as ambassador and host of the online destination.

Mari García-Márquez is the show’s recently hired new Executive Producer.

Telemundo has tried unsuccessfully to produce a popular morning show throughout the years. The morning time slot has gone through a series of incarnations.

“Levántate” was launched in September of 2008 as a replacement for “Cada Día,” hosted by María Antonieta Collins. Her show was cancelled in May of 2008 after a 3-year run (the show debuted in October of 2005), due to terrible ratings. Initially produced and transmitted out of Telemundo’s Puerto Rico station, “Levántate” was revamped and moved back to Miami at the end of February of 2011.

Prior to María Antonieta’s arrival to Telemundo and the launch of her show, “De Mañanita” occupied the morning slot, which was a revamp of “Esta Mañana.”

For those who may remember, in 1993, Telemundo had a brief advantage over Univision in the mornings with “Primera Hora,” anchored by Denisse Oller and Claudia Córdova. At the time, Univision did not have a morning show.
