McConnie joins Acceso Total NY

Carlos McConnieWNJU Telemundo 47 has hired Carlos McConnie to be co-host of the station’s local 10 am entertainment show “Acceso Total.”

Today was his on-air debut. He joins current co-host Orietta De Luque.

A Puerto Rico native, McConnie most recently spent two years as host of Deutsche Welle’s Spanish- language editions of lifestyle program “Euromaxx” in Germany.He was previously a co-presenter on Univision’s “Sábado Gigante,” “Mira Quien Baila” and social media host for “Nuestra Belleza Latina.”

He began his television career as an MTV Puerto Rico host, before becoming an on-air VJ for “Jangueo TV” on WAPA. He went on to co-host “Flashazo VIP” at Univision Puerto Rico, before making his move to the U.S.

Nuñez moves to WNJU

Nuñez moves to WNJU

Luis Gerardo NunezLuis Gerardo Nuñez is moving to New York to become a reporter for Telemundo’s WNJU. He starts the new job tomorrow, January 18.

He joins WNJU after just a weekend break from KXTX, the network’s station in Dallas, which gave him an on-air sendoff on Friday, his last day.

Luis Gerardo joined Telemundo Dallas as a VJ in November of 2014. He previously worked as a reporter for WGEN MundoFox and Telemundo’s WSCV-51 in Miami. He began his journalism career at Venezuela’s Globovisión.

Schwarz named President and GM of Telemundo NY

Cristina SchwarzCristina Schwarz returns to the New York market.  She was officially named President and General Manager of WNJU, Telemundo’s O&O in New York today.

The position had been vacant for several months, after the departure of Carlos Sanchez.

Until two weeks ago, Cristina was Vice President of Univision Cable Networks.

She has extensive experience in the New York market.  She worked for WXTV-41, Univision’s O&O in NY for 17 years, in multiple capacities, including production and sales.  She was VP and GM of Univision 41 when left the station in 2005.

Echeverry named anchor at Telemundo NY

Gloria EcheverryGloria Echeverry has been hired to become WNJU-47’s new weeknight anchor.  She’ll be co-anchoring the 6 and 11 pm news Monday-Friday, alongside Jorge Ramos, who has been on the job since 1981.

Gloria starts the new job today, although she won’t be on the air just yet.  There is no set date for her on-air debut at the Telemundo O&O in New York.

Gloria was most recently a television host for Casa Club TV International.  She previously held multiple TV hosting and news anchor jobs in Colombia, including for Noticiero 24 horas and NTC and GOS Televisión.
